Gerri Berendzen

Lecturer at William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications

Gerri Berendzen is a lecturer at the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas. Prior to teaching, Berendzen worked as a copy editor for news organizations for more than 32 years. Today, she teaches editing, writing, information management and digital media at the University of Kansas. She has been focused on fact checking research and teaching editing since 2014. She worked for newspapers and news bureaus in the Midwest before spending time as the copy desk chief and editorial production coordinator at the Herald-Whig in Quincy, Illinois. Berendzen became a Knight Foundation visiting professor at the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 2014 and moved to KU in 2016. In addition to teaching, she does freelance editing for textbooks, proposals and other projects. She is a lifetime member of ACES: The Society for Editing and served on the organization’s Executive Committee from 2006-2018.
