Legal Defense Fund
The International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) at Poynter is providing media defense funds for fact-checkers facing harassment and legal threats associated with the work of fighting mis- and disinformation.
The International Fact-Checking Network at The Poynter Institute (IFCN) has created safety programs to support fact-checkers who are increasingly facing harassment and threats of lawsuits while helping the public identify truth in public discourse.Â
With support from Meta and the Google News Initiative, IFCN’s Communication Support Program helps fact-checkers better respond to targeted harassment. Under this initiative, the fact-checkers will have access to a best practices manual and a crisis communications playbook that they can refer to when handling these challenges.Â
Those facing litigation due to their fight against misinformation can apply for the Legal Defense Fund.Â
